Why is that?

The answer lies in the “meta” settings of the articles. As beautiful as your written text is, search engines, social media, and the list page of your website itself are informed by three external elements: the Featured Image, Extract, and Tags. We will show you where to find them and how to set them up correctly!

Step by step: Setting up the ‘packaging’ of the entry

These settings are always set in the editing interface right lane, a Entries (Post) tab. If you don’t see the bar on the right, click on the small “gear” icon in the upper right corner!

1. Set the Featured Image The highlighted image is the visual element that will appear on the main page of your blog, above the title of the article, as well as on social media shares. (This is NOT equal to the images inserted between the text!).

In the right bar, scroll down to Featured image to the box.

Click on Setting up a featured image box.

Select the appropriately optimized image (ideally 1200×630 pixels, landscape orientation) from the Media Library. [Screenshot location: The menu bar on the right, with a red frame highlighting the Featured Image settings box]

2. Writing the Extract The extract is a short, 1-2 sentence teaser text. It appears in blog lists under the image and title, and this is what people read on Facebook under the link. If you leave this blank, the system will automatically and ugly “cut” the first few sentences of your article.

Scroll the Extract box.

Write a short, eye-catching summary (about 150-160 characters). [Screenshot location: The Extract box in the right sidebar with a filled example text]

3. Using Tags As we wrote before, the categories are the main “bookcases”, and the labels are the detailed “indexes” for the article. If you’ve added an article to the “News” category, you can use the tags to further refine the topic.

Find the Labels box.

Enter the most important keywords related to the article separated by commas (e.g. web design, seo, tips).

Do not overdo it, enough 3-5 relevant labels! [Screenshot location: The Labels box with some grey background labels already added]

💡 Pro Tip: If Facebook continues to stubbornly

If you have set everything right, but Facebook still pulls in the old image when copying the link, it is because of the “Cache” (cache). Facebook has noted the old state. At this time, open the Facebook Sharing Debugger tool, copy the link to your article and press Scrape Again (Research) button. This will force Facebook to read your new Featured Image and Extract!

Has the settings disappeared or the list appears strangely?

Your current website’s template (Theme) or builder (Builder) may be uniquely managing these fields, or they may have been accidentally hidden in the “Screen Settings” in the admin interface.

If you can't find the boxes mentioned above, or the Featured Image appears sliding on the page, open a ticket in the peterteszary.com Support Genix and I will set the correct appearance for you in no time!
