Why WordPress?

Numerous posts have been made on the subject. The topic has been discussed by many in English and Hungarian. A lot of people like it and a lot of people hate it, but there's one thing you can't deny: WordPress is very popular.

As a web designer, I am in favour of WP. The reason is very simple: because there are (all) websites on the Internet 37,1%-using the WordPress engine. (Source: https://bit.ly/2KJ5MXM) For websites using CMS systems, 63.4%-a. The framework itself is free and provides plenty of opportunities to upgrade our site. This is important because there are so many different types of customers. No two websites are the same.

So what is WordPress?
WordPress is a CMS framework.
What does CMS mean?

CMS is an abbreviation for Content Management System. Basically, it would be a blog engine, but over the years it has received a lot of add-ons and undergone a lot of changes (The first version (0.7) was released on May 27, 2003 by Matt Mullenweg and Ryan Boren. ). Thanks to this, it covers a very large area in terms of what it can be used for in the online world.

We can build a portfolio website, webshop, or even a reservation system for restaurants. Whatever it is. In fact, I can say that its usability can only be limited by our imagination.

Of course, there are several CMS systems, such as Joomla, Drupal etc., but the most popular one is WordPress. That's why a lot of people are attacking. Because every system, like WordPress, has its weaknesses. The positive argument for WP, however, is that due to its popularity, it is constantly receiving new updates, enhancements and add-ons.

Open source system

WordPress is an open source framework that already has a large number of users around the world. Many talented developers create their own plugins for WordPress because of the need, or because they themselves couldn't find a solution to their problem when they were looking for it. What the plugins are and what they are good for, I will discuss in a later post.

Everyone wants to use their site for something else. Someone just wants to run their blog here, but someone wants to build a complete store in the online world. This can also be done with the WP.

Operation

Basically, we need to understand how WP sites work. WordPress sites consist of the site's files and database. The two don't work without each other. Let's imagine this (with a very simplistic example, for which I apologise in advance to the expert readers, but I try to describe things in kitchen language for the layman) that the WP files are the chassis and the database is the engine itself.

The installation of the framework itself is relatively simple, although you can run into a lot of mistakes between uninitiated hands. It is worth asking for the help of a professional if you want to make your own page, but of course we can do it ourselves.

You should be aware that if you just want to try it out, you can "play" with WordPress without any further ado, but if you really want a unique and clean site, it is worth asking for the help of an expert to create your site, because there are a lot of little tricks that are better done by a professional than a serious website.

I'll come back to the subject later. So far it was just an introduction.
